Junior’s Cave Rock Indie Mix
Exclusive Interview with Kira of Shadows Lie
By: Isaac Davis Jr., BGS, MBA
Junior’s Cave Rock Indie Mix is proud to present our newest interview with the female fronted Rock band Shadows Lie. In this interview, Kira of Shadows Lie speaks one on one with our community about the band and their music.
Isaac: What was the best part of 2008 for you musically?
Kira: Well, we spent the year playing up and down the east coast. About 160 shows! It was great to get out there and expose our music to lots of people. We had a blast. Made some fans. Had fun.
Isaac: What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment for 2008?
Kira: I would say that playing 160 shows up and down the east coast totally on our own was our biggest accomplishment last year. We had no tour support. We did it all on our own.
Isaac: Describe the music scene in area.
Kira: The rock music scene in NYC is pretty much saturated with the Indie Rock vibe which isn’t the greatest for the style of music we play. So my bass player CT created a modern rock showcase in the city called Gotham Rocks. We've done about 5 of them in the city now...and they're growing.

We have a bunch of excellent sponsors like, Spector, DR String, Revolver, WSOU, Marshall Amps, etc. The next one is June 6th at Crash Mansion. You should check out the showcase at www.GothamRocks.net or www.myspace.com/gothamrocks
Isaac: What has been the best venue to perform at and why?
Kira: We've been blessed to play some awesome venues in the past year and a half/2 years. Webster Hall in NYC, Highline Ballroom in NYC, The Chameleon in Lancaster PA, Maximum Capacity in Chicopee MA, The Webster Theatre in CT. These are great venues because the sound rocks and there is a good energy in the crowd.
Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?
Kira: Well, I grew up playing the piano…so Tori Amos was a big influence on me. But, I also was drawn to the darkness of Alice In Chains. As a band, I think we're greatly influenced also by Korn, Sevendust, Portishead, Morcheeba, CRystal Method, Incubus..some of those. Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?
Kira: I mean, I just wanna be as true to myself and to the music as possible. We bring our passion, our intensity, and honesty. I try to be as honest as I can be in my writing.
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?
Kira: Hmmm… That's such a tough question to answer. To tell the truth, I don't think I can narrow it down to one. Influences are always changing, you know. One day it's this, another day it's that.
Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?
Kira: It's a combination of light and dark, hard and soft, sweet and sour. It’s the angel and the devil in one, you know? Those two extremes meet in our music.
Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from fans about your music?
Kira: We've gotten so much wonderful feedback from fans. Such kind words, hugs, etc. but I think for me, what touches me the most if when fans make gifts for me. One of our fans takes pix of me and then photo shops them, adds my lyrics, and makes these really beautiful images...pieces of art really. That really touches me. I think a lot of our fans really relate to my lyrics. I get lots of feedback about that. And they like and appreciate a strong female presence. And of course, they love the energy of the music and our high energy stage show.
Isaac: Where can fans locate you at online?
Kira: www.myspace.com/wheretheshadowslie
www.shadowslie.com
www.cdfreedom.com/shadowslie
Isaac: What can fans expect from you in the next five years?
Kira: 5 years is a long time!! What they can expect in the near future is a brand new album and more touring!
Isaac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends, and fans?
Kira: Mom, I love you!! All of our friends and fans up and down the east coast, you're the best and we are blessed to have your support! All the bands we play with who make us feel right at home when we're out of town, thanks for being the best and for making great music.
Isaac: Final words…
Kira: Stay True, Play nice with others...Rock out!
